MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis running back Mario Anderson Jr. and linebacker Chandler Martin received All-America honors from Phil Steele, earning honorable mention recognition for their play during the 2024 season.
On the season, Anderson Jr. totaled 1,674 scrimmage yards while scoring 21 total touchdowns – both good for No. 8 in the country. The Summerville, S.C., native rushed for 100-plus yards on eight occasions, the most for a Memphis running back since Darrell Henderson in 2018.
Anderson Jr. had one of the most productive seasons for a Tiger running back in program history, totaling 1,362 yards on the ground (No. 6 in Memphis history) while rushing for 18 touchdowns (T-No. 3 in Memphis history).
Martin, a redshirt-junior linebacker from Lithonia, Georgia, led the Tigers in tackles for the second year in a row, totaling 111 stops with 16 tackles for loss and seven sacks while ranking second in the country with four fumble recoveries.
Martin's 111 tackles ranked 29th in FBS while his 16 tackles for loss ranked top 15 nationally.
The Tigers finished the season 11-2 after defeating West Virginia in the Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl to cap off back-to-back double-digit win seasons for the first time in program history and secure 11 or more wins for just the second time.
Memphis is 21-5 over the past two seasons – tied for the ninth-most wins in FBS over that stretch.
