Tigers in Seventh Place Following Round One of Badger Invitational

MADISON, Wis. – After one round of play in the Badger Invitational, the University of Memphis men's golf team sits in seventh place at two over par while two Tigers find themselves in the top 20.
"We did a lot of nice things today, but lost focus on a stretch of holes on the back nine that stalled out our round and threw us back to the pack," head men's gold coach Blake Smart said. "I'm seeing progress, we just have to push through to that next level."
With a first-round score of 290, Memphis finds themselves right in the middle of the pack and just nine strokes behind current leader, Wisconsin.
Andrew Baucum and Cian O'Connor find themselves in the top 20 following day one after they both shot a 71. Baucum found success on the front nine with birdies on holes four, six and eight while O'Connor birdied holes 10 and 16 on the back nine.
Teammate Yixiang Wang is right behind them in a seven-way tie for 22nd place after shooting even today; the sophomore had a strong opening, going three under par on the front half of the course before struggling on the back half.
Heading into tomorrow's second round, Jackson McCommon (+4) and Diego Lourenco (+6) sit in a tie for 54th and tie for 71st, respectively.
