Tigers Fall to Mean Green in First Round of AAC Tournament

WICHITA, Kan. – The 10th-seeded University of Memphis softball team fell to third-seeded North Texas, 7-1, in the first round of the American Athletic Conference Tournament Wednesday afternoon at Wilkins Stadium in Wichita, Kansas.
The Tigers (6-44, 1-26 AAC) got on the board first as Zoe Adebayo dropped a run-scoring single to left-center field for her 24th RBI of the season, driving in Kennedy Semien to give the Tigers an early advantage. Memphis was unable to hold the lead, however, as North Texas (31-23, 17-10 AAC) came back to grab the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Memphis got on the board early as Semien and Aaliyah Dixon drew back-to-back walks before Adebayo sent an RBI single over the shortstop bringing in Semien in the top of the first.
• North Texas evened the score in the bottom of the second frame as Mikayla Smith sent a long ball over the fence in center.
• The Mean Green put runners on the corners in the bottom of the third, however, they were unable to score as Francesca Lumpp threw out a runner trying to steal second for the final out.
• North Texas extended its advantage on a two-RBI double to center field in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Mean Green added two more runs before closing the frame.
• North Texas' Emma Grahmann scored a sixth run in the bottom of the fifth as Tatum Sparks drew the attention of the Tigers while getting in a rundown between first and second. Grahmann crossed the dish before Sparks was tagged out by Presley Morris.
• The Tigers put two runners in scoring position in the top of the sixth, but were unable to bring anyone home.
• The Mean Green tacked on a final run in the home half of the sixth with an RBI double down the line in right to make it 7-1.
NOTABLES
• Rylee Dugar got the start in the circle going three innings before Taniyah Brown entered in relief in the bottom of the fourth. Brown recorded two strikeouts in three innings of work.
• Two Tigers recorded hits against the Mean Green- Adebayo (2) and Dixon.
• Adebayo extended her on-base streak to nine games while driving in her team-high 24th RBI.
