Tigers Head to Conway for Midweek at Central Arkansas

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis baseball team is back on the road Wednesday for a midweek matchup at 6 p.m. in Conway, Arkansas, with the University of Central Arkansas at Bear Stadium.

The game will be available on GoTigersGo.com via audio stream with Jeff Brightwell on the call and streamed live on ESPN+.

The Tigers (17-17, 5-4 AAC) are coming off a 4-0 week that included a home win over Ole Miss and an American Athletic Conference road sweep of the Owls at Rice in Houston, Texas. The win over Ole Miss marked the first win for the Tigers over the Rebels in the Bluff City since 2017, and the first on campus since 2001, while the road conference sweep was the first for the Tigers since 2012 at the University of Houston as members of Conference USA.

Bear Stadium will play host to the 16^th all-time meeting between Memphis and Central Arkansas, with the Tigers leading the all-time series 12-3, including four straight and a 14-4 run-rule win at FedExPark Avron Fogelman field back on Feb. 21 when Memphis matched a program record with seven home runs. The Bears (13-18, 4-8 ASUN) enter Wednesday night after being swept at Florida Gulf Coast over the weekend.

The Memphis offense is averaging 6.9 runs per game to rank second in The American (235). The Tigers' 46 long balls are also second in the AAC and rank 45^th in the nation while their 68 doubles rank 39^th in the NCAA and lead the league.

The Tigers' 60 stolen bases rank second in the league and 30^th nationally while their 177 walks drawn rank 32^nd in the NCAA and lead the conference. Defensively, Memphis has turned the 12^th-most double plays in the country (30).

Daunte Stuart is batting a team-high .318 on the year and leads the AAC with 14 doubles – good for ninth-most in the NCAA. The Bahamas native has scored 35 runs to lead the squad and rank third in the conference.

Two-way senior Jake Curtis was named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll on April 8 after a big week on the mound. The Chatham, Illinois, native was the only pitcher in the conference to record multiple wins over the week while slugging a two-run double at the plate and saving Saturday's 5-4 series-clinching win on the mound. Curtis also homered, scored a pair of runs and stole a base in the win over Ole Miss and made a plethora of elite defensive plays at shortstop when he wasn't pitching at Rice over the weekend.

Junior outfielder Pierre Seals is slashing .304/.536/.420 on the season with 13 stolen bases to lead the club and rank third in the AAC. His 67 total bases are third most on the team and his seven home runs are second to only Jacob Compton. Compton, the 2022 American RBI leader, leads the squad and ranks second in the league in home runs (9) and his 31 RBI lead the Tigers and are tied for fourth-most in the league.

Closer Brayden Sanders has recorded seven saves – good for fifth-most in the country and the conference lead. His 1.40 ERA in 19.1 innings (29 K) leads the team.

RHP David Warren was named AAC Pitcher of the Week on April 2 after his career outing vs. Florida Atlantic on last Thursday night. He went 7.1 innings and notched a career-high 10 strikeouts to help Memphis to its second conference win of the season against Florida Atlantic. He came back and threw a career-high 8.0 innings last Friday night at Rice (3 R, 7 H, 3 K, 1 BB) to help the Tigers win a 15-inning thriller. On the year, Warren is 4-1 (2-0 AAC) with a 4.35 ERA over 49.2 innings of work with 35 strikeouts.

Seth Cox was named the AAC Player of the Week on March 18 after a breakout week for the Tigers at the dish, batting .471 and collecting eight hits (four for extra bases) while smashing three home runs and driving in a dozen runs for a staggering 1.609 OPS on the week. He slugged a home run at No. 21 Mississippi State (March 19) and another in a 16-7 win over South Florida (March 22) to make it five home runs in a seven-game stretch.

LHP Brandon Chorzelewski will make his first start and 11^th appearance of the season tomorrow. Offensively, Central Arkansas is led by Drew Sturgeon (.322 BA, 6 HR, 28 RBI, 8 SB).
