Tigers Take Step Forward with Strong Performances in Tuscaloosa

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Memphis track and field team had a great weekend of competition as they competed at the Crimson Tide Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
"I thought we saw some really solid improvements, especially within the women's sprint group," head coach Kevin Robinson said. "Arina [Razina] had a great day in the vault, which was great to be a part of. We also had quite a few personal bests and seasonal bests in the throws. This weekend was definitely a very big step in the right direction."
NOTABLES
• Arina Razina cleared a big personal-best mark this weekend in the women's pole vault. She took first overall, jumping 4.05 meters (13-3.5"), moving her to No. 3 in the AAC in the process.
• Riley Simmons had a weekend full of personal best throws. Starting with the hammer throw, she took first place with a personal-best throw of 52.01 meters (170-7"). Simmons followed that up in the women's discus with another personal best to take sixth overall with a throw of 46.66 meters (153-1"). Both marks put her at No. 6 in the AAC, respectively, in each event.
• Kyndia Matlock also had a strong weekend, recording two personal bests. Her first was in the women's 100-meter dash, posting a time of 11.63 and finishing fourth overall. That time jumped her to No. 7 in the AAC. Matlock followed that up by placing fourth overall in the 200 meters to improve to No. 9 in the AAC with a time of 23.73.
• Women's 100-meter hurdler Gizel Clayton placed third with a time of 13.64.
• Oliver Tomann launched a personal-best throw of 56.94 meters (186-10") to take sixth place in the men's hammer throw. That throw put him at No. 5 in the AAC this season.
• Will Dibo threw his way to a third-place finish with a personal-best mark of 56.81 meters (186-4") in the men's discus.
•Sascha Salesius Schmidt improved his season-best mark in the men's discus, throwing 53.71 meters (176.2") to place sixth. Salesius Schmidt's personal-best shot-put throw of 18.43 meters (60-5 3/4") earned him a runner-up finish later in the weekend.
• Men's shot-put thrower lason Machairas placed fifth overall with a throw of 17.16 meters (56-3 3/4").
• In the women's 400 meters, Gabrielle Cross finished fourth with a personal-best time of 54.12 to move her to No. 4 in the AAC.
• Lewis LaGrant jumped 2.00 meters (6-6 3/4") and earned seventh place in the men's high jump.
• 400-meter runner Courtland Noble finished seventh overall with a personal-best time of 47.71. That mark moved him to No. 6 in the conference this season.
• Men's 400-meter hurdler Adam Yakobi finished seventh overall and ran a season-best time of 52.57. That time moved him to No. 3 in the AAC.
