MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The No. 46 University of Memphis women's tennis team continued its winning ways Friday afternoon, defeating UAB 6-1 at Leftwich Tennis Center.

The win improved the Tigers to 13-6 on the year and extended their win streak to four matches, while UAB dropped to 11-9.

The visiting Blazers got a pair of wins on the first and third courts to grab the doubles point, but that would be all they would get.

Memphis rolled through singles, winning all six matchups, including four in straight sets.

"We are excited to see an effort like that after losing the double, the girls showed a lot of resilience," Memphis head coach Hayden Perez said. "We've lost more doubles points than we would have liked this year, but the girls are always fighting back.

"It was the second time this season we lost the doubles and came back to sweep all six singles."

Alice Amendola (6-3, 6-1) and Micah Pierce (6-1, 6-2) won at the fifth and sixth positions, respectively, to put the Tigers in front, 2-1.

Monique Woog followed with a 7-5, 6-1 victory on court three, while Leonie Moeller clinched the victory at her No. 2 position with a 6-2, 7-6(5) decision.

Emily Meyer dropped the first set on court four, but battled back to win 2-6, 6-4, 6-2. Camila Soares rounded out the action on the top line with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 victory.

"I feel like we keep playing a little better each time out and with conference just a few weeks away, we are hitting our stride," Perez said.

The Tigers are back in action Sunday when they host No. 55 Wichita State at 10 a.m. at Leftwich Tennis Center.
