Clark Named Nominee for 2024 Broyles Award

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis assistant head coach and defensive backs coach Charles Clark was named one of 65 nominees for the 2024 Broyles Award, which honors the best assistant coach in college football.
This season for the Tigers, Clark has helped guide a Memphis defensive unit that ranks second in FBS and leads the AAC with 12 fumble recoveries, is tied for third nationally in turnover margin (+13), No. 11 in turnovers gained (21), No. 15 in first-down defense (185), No. 18 in rushing defense (108.2), No. 37 with 69.0 tackles for loss and No. 52 in total defense (353.9).
Dating back to last year's win at UAB, Memphis has forced at least one turnover in 14 of its last 18 games. Over that stretch, the Tigers have created 32 takeaways (17 INT, 15 FR).
Under Clark this season, fifth-year defensive back Davion Ross is tied for No. 9 in FBS with 13 passes defended while fellow defensive back Greg Rubin is tied for ninth nationally with three forced fumbles. Another defensive back, Kobee Minor, was named to ESPN's "Transfer Portal September Surprises" for his play.
In addition, Clark helps lead a defense that includes redshirt-junior linebacker Chandler Martin, who ranks second in the country in fumble recoveries (4), No. 14 in tackles for loss (14.0), tied for 35th in tackles (90) and tied for 49th in sacks (6.0).
The 23rd-ranked Tigers head to New Orleans for a Thanksgiving night matchup on Nov. 28 at No. 18 Tulane (9-2, 7-0 AAC) to cap the regular season.
