Tigers Fall 3-1 to Pirates Friday Night

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis Volleyball fell 3-1 to East Carolina Friday night at the Larry O. Finch Center.
The Tigers (10-13, 4-7 AAC) fought hard but came up short against the Pirates (15-6, 8-3). Hannah Jones led the match with 21 kills. Clara Bednarek followed behind with nine, and Tiffany Snook recorded seven kills as well.
Jordan Heatherly had an impressive game, recording 40 assists while also adding 10 digs and four kills.
The Tigers came out the gate on fire, taking an early 6-3 lead. The Pirates clawed back to even the score at 7. Neither team had more than a three-point advantage, fighting until the very end. Unfortunately, East Carolina came out on top 25-21.
East Carolina continued their momentum into the second set, going up 8-3. The Tigers went on a 5-0 run with a massive block and huge kills from Jones to even the score at 15. The Pirates used a 3-0 run to take back the lead. However, Memphis stormed back with a 5-1 run, pushing through to take the set 25-23.
The third set started with back-and-forth action until East Carolina went on a 6-1 run to go up, 14-11. Memphis fought back to even the score at 16 with crucial kills from Snook and Jones. The Pirates did not let up, taking the lead once again at 19-16. East Carolina won the last five out of seven points en route to a 25-19 victory.
The fourth set stayed in a contested battle as neither team had more than a three-point advantage. Memphis fought hard but was unable to pull through at the end, dropping the set 25-23.

The Tigers will be back at the Larry O. Finch Center on Sunday, Nov. 3, at noon to play North Texas for Senior Day. The match will be available to stream on ESPN+.
