WICHITA, Kan. – The University of Memphis Volleyball fell in a five-set thriller to Wichita State Friday night at the Charles Koch Arena.
  
The Tigers (10-11, 4-5 AAC) fought hard but came up short against the Shockers (11-10, 6-3). Hannah Jones led the match with a career-high 21 kills. Clara Bednarek and Tiffany Snook followed behind with 12 kills as well.

The opening set started in back-and-forth action until Wichita State went on a 10-1 run to take the lead at 20-12. The Tigers went on a run of their own, coming within five, but could not make up the deficit. Memphis dropped the first set 25-19.

The second set remained in a contested battle through midway of the set when the Shockers used a 3-0 run to go up 15-11. Wichita State led the rest of the way, taking the set 25-18.

The Tigers took an early 11-4 lead in the third set. Wichita State fought back to come within one point. However, Memphis responded with another run to pull ahead 17-13. The Shockers did not back down, as they stormed back to even the score at 21. The Tigers pushed through at the end, winning the last three out of four points en route to a 26-24 victory.

The fourth set stayed close through the entire set, as neither team had more than a two-point advantage. Memphis rallied at the end, winning the last three points to take the set 27-25.

Wichita State took an 8-7 lead at the side switch to start the fifth set. The Shockers extended their lead using three consecutive blocks. The Tigers tried to fight back but fell short, dropping the fifth set 15-12.

The Tigers will continue their road trip playing at Tulsa on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. The match will be available to stream on ESPN+.
