Henigan Named Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Semifinalist
Oct 22, 2024 | Football
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis quarterback Seth Henigan was named one of 20 semifinalists for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award, a subset of the selection committee for the award, announced Tuesday.
Henigan is one of just two student-athletes in the American Athletic Conference to be named a semifinalist, joining UAB's Isaiah Jacobs on the list. All student-athletes named as semifinalists have demonstrated a record of leadership by exceptional courage, integrity and sportsmanship both on and off the field.
The award, presented by Albertsons and Tom Thumb, is the first college football honor to focus primarily on a player's leadership, both on and off the field. Leadership is a term synonymous with Jason Witten, who, in addition to becoming one of the best tight ends in the history of the sport, served as one of football's most prominent role models during his 16-year pro career. In addition to winning the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award in 2012, Witten also received the Bart Starr Award, Pro Football Weekly's Humanitarian of the Year Award, Home Depot NFL Neighborhood MVP and the Bob Lilly Award, among many others.
This season, Henigan ranks eighth in the nation in completions per game (25.3), 18th in passing yards (1,866), and 24th in total offense per game (280.1).
The Tigers' all-time leading passer overtook Brady White as the winningest quarterback in program history with the victory over North Texas on Oct. 19 – giving him 29 wins for his career to help Memphis become bowl eligible for the 11th-consecutive season.
Henigan was named to six award watch lists this preseason – the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award, Davey O'Brien Award, Manning Award, Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award and the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award – given annually to the nation's top senior or upperclassmen quarterback. He was also named to the Reese's Senior Bowl watch list and made the cut to the top-25 candidates for the Johnny Unitas Award on Oct. 8.
Henigan is the Memphis-career leader in completions (1,015) and passing yards (12,630) while his 89 touchdowns are just one shy of Brady White's career record. The senior has logged 21-career 300-yard passing games and five 400-yard efforts over his career – both good for program records.
Three finalists will be named for the award on Monday, Dec. 16. The winner will be announced at the award ceremony at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Feb. 12, 2025.
