Memphis Falls to Tulane in a Five-Set Thriller

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis Volleyball team fell in a five-set thriller to Tulane Friday night at the Larry O. Finch Center.
The Tigers (9-10, 3-4 AAC) fell 3-2 to the Green Wave (12-7, 4-3) and were led by Hannah Jones with 15 kills. Jasmyn Tate followed behind with 14 while Tiffany Snook recorded 11 kills as well.
The opening set started with back-and-forth action until Memphis pulled ahead 18-15. The Tigers extended their lead with huge blocks from Jones, Clara Bednarek, and Jordan Heatherly. Memphis sealed the deal with a kill from Snook, to take the first set 25-19.
The Tigers jumped out to an early 11-5 lead in the second set. Memphis controlled the entire set, never letting Tulane within three points. Abigail Schlueter pushed the Tigers to victory with an ace, winning 25-16.
The third set remained a contested battle through midway of the set. Memphis pushed ahead using a 5-1 run to go up 12-8. The Green Wave fought back to even the score at 17. Both teams fought to the end, unfortunately, Tulane pulled through at the end taking the set 25-22.
Memphis took an early lead, going up 10-6, and was able to maintain the lead through most of the set. Tulane clawed back with a 7-1 run to take the lead at 18-16. The Tigers were unable to regain control, dropping the fourth set 25-20.
Tulane led for most of the fifth set, going up 8-5 at the switch. Memphis was unable to overcome the deficit, falling 15-10.

The Tigers will hit the road playing North Texas on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 11 a.m. The match will be available to stream on ESPN+.
