Tigers Host Bruins Friday Night

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tiger men's soccer team will be back in the Bluff City this Friday night when they play host to the Bruins of Belmont University.
Memphis (3-0-1) is off to an incredible start this season going undefeated through their first four matches of the season – the first time since the 2011 season. The Tigers are coming off a comeback win over Central Arkansas where Memphis would tie the match, and eventually take the 2-1 win in the final five minutes of the game.
"It took the entire 90 minutes but happy we got the result on the road," said head men's coach Richard Mulrooney. "It was well deserved. There are some things we want to clean up and work on this week to focus on Belmont."
For the season, Lineker Rodrigues dos Santos leads the team with four goals and an assist while Jackson Kim, this week's AAC Defensive Player of the Week, has recorded two goals. Alberto Cruz and Kodai Tanaka have also found the back of the net this season.
Colin Welsh has been solid in-goal for Memphis, collecting all three wins with nine saves made with a 0.52 goals-against average in 350 minutes played.
Belmont (2-0-2) is coming off a weekend at the UAB Soccer for the Cure Classic where they picked up a 2-1 win over Houston Christian on Friday night and a 1-1 draw with Chicago State on Sunday morning.
After the Bruins took an early lead after Case Cox's goal in the 28', CSU would score in the 82' to tie the match. A shot and three corner kicks came from Chicago State, but Belmont would hold steady to stay undefeated.
For the season, Brock Kiper is the lone Bruin to have multiple goals so far this season while three other players have notched one goal each. Grant Calvert has been the Bruins go-to between the pipes where he has made 18 saves in 360 minutes.
"Belmont plays a very organized, tough style of soccer. If we can get back in our shutout ways it's going to give us a really good chance to get a result from them" said Mulrooney.
The Tigers and Bruins are no stranger to one another; Memphis currently leads the all-time series 16-1 with their most recent win coming back in 2019 where they took a 2-0 decision in Nashville.
Friday's match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kick-off with coverage available on ESPN+. Prior to the match, Memphis will celebrate Senior Night with their ten seniors: JD Gunn, Robbie Baker, Hyeosang Jang, Dylan Keller, Jackson Kim, Logan Longo, Bryce Meredith, Cesar Sancho, Eric Primo and Brandon Brackett.
