Tigers Tangle with Wildcats in Thursday Evening Match-Up
Sep 06, 2023 | Women's Soccer
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tiger women's soccer team will round up their three-game road stand this Thursday evening when they head to Manhattan, Kan. to take on Kansas State.
Memphis (4-1) is coming off a bounce-back win over Iowa State where the Tigers got two early goals from Saorla Miller, the AAC's Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. After Mya Jones netted her third goal of the season in the 66' of play, the Tigers would cruise to the 4-1 win over the Cyclones.
"It was important for us to bounce back," said head women's soccer coach Brooks Monaghan. "It's always a positive to score four goals on the road against a solid team and I feel like we're in a good place going into this weekend."
For the season, Miller and Jones have led the charge, offensively, with a combined eight goals and five assists between the two. Five other Tiger players have recorded two goals while freshmen Yui Suetsugu and Sarah Granno have each notched a goal.
Kansas State (2-2-2) is coming off back-to-back losses to Vanderbilt and Nebraska this past weekend where the Wildcats were outscored 5-0 over 180 minutes.
Currently, Jo Sees and Jazmin Brown lead KSU with two goals each while Murphy Sheaff has been the go-to for the Wildcats in goal with 21 saves made.
"It's important that we improve on a couple of things from our previous games to give us the best chance against Kansas State. "We've got a tough match ahead of us but I think the team is excited and ready for it;" said Monaghan.
Thursday's match will be the first time the Tigers and Wildcats have met.
Kick-off in Manhattan is scheduled for 7 p.m. with coverage available on Big 12 Now on ESPN+. Tickets can be purchased HERE.
