Tigers Open Season With Pair of Top-Five Finishes at Memphis Twilight

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis cross country team kicked off its season on Saturday night, running at the City Auto Memphis Twilight Classic at Mike Rose Soccer Complex in Memphis. The women's team finished fifth place and the men finished fourth overall.
Tiger standout Chloe Figgins led the way for the Memphis women, finishing third place in personal-best time (17:42.88) in a field of 181 runners. For the men, Vincent Chenier led the way with a 12th-place finish (20:19.59).
"Both teams had a solid opener," cross country coach Ken Frenette said. "We now know where we're at as a team. I saw some good things out on the trails tonight. As always, the team really feeds off having the support of the home crowd when they race in Memphis."
Rounding out the top-five finishers for the women's team were Ann Marie Braese (13th, 19:02.27), Ashleigh Anderson (33rd, 19:22.12), Ximena Lopez de Escalera (37th, 19:30.69) and Chablis Shreffler (39th, 19:31.99).
On the men's side, Robert Arnold (15th, 20:30.06), Robert Randall (29th, 21:01.16), Sammy Mohamed (38th, 21:14.48) and Alex Bobak (50th, 21:28.47) rounded out the top-five finishers behind Chenier.
Up next, the Tigers will compete at the Southern Showcase in Huntsville, Ala., on September 15.
