Figgins, Chenier Lead Tigers at Southern Showcase

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Memphis cross country team was back in action on Friday morning, running at the Southern Showcase at John Hunt Cross Country Park in Huntsville, Ala. The men's team finished 16th overall in the 8K race and the women's team finished 12th in the 5K race.
Leading the way was Chloe Figgins for the women, finishing 24th overall in personal-best time (17:28.20) in a field of 200 runners. For the men, Vincent Chenier led the way with a 26th-place finish (24:29.70) in the 200-man field.
"Overall, both teams turned in solid performances on the trails this morning," Memphis cross country coach Ken Frenette said. "Vincent and Chloe raced strong in leading the team. I am pleased with the steady improvement of both teams."
Rounding out the top-five finishers for the women's team were Ann Marie Braese (83rd, 18:31.10), Jalyssa Smith (107th, 18:50.60), Ximena Lopez de Escalera (112th, 18:52.50) and Ashleigh Anderson (115th, 18:57.80).
On the men's side, Robert Randall (67th, 25:09.70), Robert Arnold (87th, 25:34.40), Sammy Mohamed (119th, 26:08.70) and Alex Bobak (129th, 26:21.40) rounded out the top-five finishers behind Chenier.
Up next, the Tigers will compete at the Live in Lou Cross Country Classic in Louisville, Ky., on September 30.
