Tigers Travel South for Southern Showcase
Sep 14, 2023 | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Memphis cross country team heads south to Huntsville, Ala., on Friday to compete at the Southern Showcase at John Hunt Cross Country Running Park.
The men's 8K race will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the women's 5K race to follow, scheduled for 8:30 a.m. You can follow the meet with live results and on our official Twitter page.
"Both teams are looking forward to racing this weekend after a strong showing at the Memphis Twilight meet two weeks ago," cross country coach Ken Frenette said. "On the men's side, we'll have five men racing the five-mile distance for the first time. The women have been steadily improving in training, so it should be a good showing on Friday for them as well."
At the 2023 Memphis Twilight and season opener on Sept. 2, Tiger standout Chloe Figgins led the way for the Memphis women, finishing third place in personal-best time (17:42.88) in a field of 181 runners. For the men, Vincent Chenier led the way with a 12th-place finish (20:19.59). The men's team finished fourth overall and the women turned in a fifth-place team finish.
