MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Head Memphis women's basketball coach Alex Simmons continues to build her program here as she announces the hiring of Nadiria Evans as the program's Director of Operations.
Evans, a native of Gainsville, Fla., comes to Memphis after spending last season as the Director of Basketball Operations at Gardner-Webb University with Simmons. While with the Runnin' Bulldogs during their historic season, Evans oversaw team travel, meals, game scheduling, coordinating gear and many other aspects within the program.
"I knew Nadiria was a champion when she led the UNC Asheville program as a student-athlete and I'm very proud to have her on our staff now," said Simmons. "She brings a passion and heart that is sincerely pure. Her passion for our student-athletes is felt daily and her willingness to sacrifice is consistently shown in her actions."
Prior to her stint at GWU, Evans spent time at Jumpstart Performance Training as well as a camp counselor at the Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick and UNC Asheville Men's Basketball camps.
Evans was a decorated collegiate athlete where she was a two-sport athlete in basketball and track & field. Evans was named as a Big South First Team member during her time at UNC Asheville and is the all-time leading scorer for the Bulldogs women's basketball program. She was named to the 2022 Big South All-Tournament Team as well as the All-Big South Second Team.
"Nadiria is someone who I have not only coached against but worked with in the last four years and she is a leader and pushes me to think with different perspectives that are parallel to how our student-athletes perceive things. With the new legislation occurring on July 1st, I can't wait to see her develop our point guard position and continue to see her grow as a coach and woman," said Simmons.
Along with her records in basketball, Evans also holds the second-longest leap (5.50m) and third-longest jump (11.35m) in school history while competing at the Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Evans is a 2022 graduate of UNC Asheville where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications with a minor in Business.
