MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis baseball team defeated Tulane, 12-2, in seven innings to win its final American Athletic Conference series of the season at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers walked 15 times to tie a program record (Middle Tennessee, 1998).
With the win, the Tigers improve to 28-26 (10-14 AAC) on the season. The Green Wave fell to 15-39 (8-16) on the year with the win. 28 wins for Memphis is the most in a season since 2017.
"Great job by our guys today to come out and rebound after what happened yesterday," head coach Kerrick Jackson said. "We got that final conference-series win and evened things up with Tulane this season. Now we have to take the momentum we've created into the conference tournament and make a run deep into this thing and see if we can't find ourselves playing on championship Sunday."
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Tigers scored three runs in the first inning on a single-inning program record seven walks and no hits. Will Spears walked to force in the first run and the next two Tigers came in to score on wild pitches.

• Cox muscled up for his third home run of the year to left-center field to get that run right back in the bottom of the fourth and make it a 9-1 game.
• Cox wasn't done at the plate and drove in his fourth and fifth runs of the game with his second double in the bottom of the sixth, driving in Spears and Braden Webb.
• The Green Wave cut Memphis' lead to nine with a sac-fly in the top of the seventh, but Memphis walked off in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single by Austin Baskin that scored Tyler Heckert.
