MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tiger women's basketball team continues to grow as head coach Alex Simmons has announced the signing of Ally Hollifield for the upcoming season.
Hollifield, a 5-7 guard out of Shelby, N.C., comes to Memphis following a decorated career at Shelby High School where she was a two-time All-State Performer and led her team to a North Carolina 2A State Championship in her sophomore season. Hollifield would go on to be named the Most Outstanding Player for the State Championship game.
"Ally is an addition that our staff was very excited to make. Her sharp shooting from the 3-point line, her ability to guard on the ball, and her toughness will really elevate our team," said Simmons. "Ally has an extremely high basketball IQ, lives in the gym and has a work ethic that will be very obvious in her production on the court. We are happy to add Ally and the Hollifield Family to our Tiger women's basketball program!"
A three-sport athlete in basketball, soccer and cross country, Hollifield was named as an All-Conference and All-District athlete for three consecutive seasons and was named as the Shelby Defensive MVP during her freshman and junior campaigns. Hollifield would reach the 1,000-career point mark during the beginning of her senior season and surpass the 1,500-point mark before the end of the season.
Hollifield picked up Player of the Year status in the conference and district during her senior season after an impressive stat line of 24 points, 8.9 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 5.4 steals per game.
