PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Memphis senior Kendric Davis has been named to the Portsmouth Invitational All-Tournament Team after helping his team to the tournament title in the prestigious event Saturday night.
In three games over a four-day span, Davis averaged 15.3 points, 6.7 assists, 3.0 steals and 2.7 rebounds in leading his team, sponsored by K&D Rounds Landscaping, to the championship in a 91-87 win over Sales Systems, LTD.
"This was a great event full of great players who get to play in front of all 30 NBA teams and interview with them as well," Davis said. "This was an amazing week.
"I love to compete, and I got a chance to show why I was the best point guard here. I think I did that."
The 6-foot guard from Houston, Texas shot 38.6 percent overall, 25.0 percent from three-point range, and 67.0 percent from the foul line. He had 18 points and five assists in a 104-82 win in the team's tourney opener, 14 points, 10 assists, five rebounds and six steals in a 104-93 second-round victory, and 14 points, five dimes and two rebounds in the title game.
The All-Tournament Team included 13 players of the 64 players, divided into eight teams, who were invited to participate in the tournament, held annually at Churchland High School in Portsmouth, Virginia. The 68-year-old tourney is a showcase for scouts from the NBA and other worldwide professional leagues.
Davis' Memphis teammate, DeAndre Williams, was also invited to participate in the Portsmouth Invitational. Williams averaged 9.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.3 steals in three games. His squad, sponsored by Mike Duman Auto Sales, finished the event 1-2.
Davis' outstanding play at Portsmouth continued a successful postseason for the Tiger, which included the AAC Tournament MVP and a selection to the USBWA All-District First Team.
The NBA Draft is set for June 22 at 7 p.m. CT.
