Former Tiger Standout Tim Harris Announced as 2023 Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Inductee

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Former University of Memphis football standout Tim Harris was announced as a 2023 inductee to the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame on Friday.
Harris was a four-year letterwinner for Memphis, earning All-Metro Conference honors for three-straight seasons.
On completing his eligibility, Harris held records for tackles for loss in a game, season and a career and continues to rank among the top-10 in the Tiger record book in solo and assisted tackles, and quarterback sacks. His 49 career tackles for loss remains atop the record book heading in to the 2023 season.
Harris came to the Tigers after graduating from Memphis Catholic High School after transferring from Woodlawn High in Birmingham, Ala. In his freshman season, he recorded 52 tackles, had four pass break-ups and one quarterback sack. In 1983, in his sophomore year, Harris recorded 89 tackles, recovered three fumbles, had seven pass break-ups, six quarterback sacks and 13 tackles for 78 yards lost. His play at outside linebacker earned his All-Metro conference honors, All-South Independent second team honors and Associated Press honorable mention All-American honors.
He didn't slow down in his junior season, finishing with 120 tackles, including four sacks and 17 tackles for 83 yards lost. He earned first team honors on both All-Metro and All-South Independent teams and was tabbed as a second team All-America from Football News.
In his final year, Harris recorded 83 tackles, including 14 tackles for loss and five pass break-ups. He earned All-Metro Conference honors and a second Highland Hundred MVP award. Harris was inducted into the M Club Hall of Fame in 2010.
Harris was drafted in the fourth round of the 1986 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers and went on to a 10-year career with stops in San Francisco and Philadelphia. Harris was part of the 1994 49ers team that won Super Bowl XXIX. Harris was named to the 1989 Pro Bowl and was inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame in 2022.
"Tim Harris' career led him from Memphis to the NFL, and he excelled at every level," said Brad Willis, Executive Director of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame. "A Super Bowl champion player, and a great representative of the Memphis Tigers, Tim's inclusion in the Class of 2023 is well deserved."
Harris joins former Predators Captain Mike Fisher, MTSU baseball legend Steve Smith, golfer Loren Roberts, Bristol Motor Speedway Co-Founder Carl R. Moore, ETSU Basketball Coach and Athletics Director Les Robinson, and Lady Vol Track star and Olympic Gold Medalist Tianna Madison as 2023 Inductees.
The full 2023 Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class will be released over the coming weeks.
The 2023 Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony, presented by the Tennessee Titans, will be held Saturday, July 22 at the Omni Nashville Downtown. Ticket information will be announced at a later date.
