Pierce Clinches 4-3 Win for Tigers at Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Memphis Tigers women's tennis team battled to a 4-3 victory at Cincinnati Friday afternoon to kick off its two-match weekend in the Queen City.

The Tigers (5-11) improved to 3-0 in American Athletic Conference play with all three victories coming in their last five matches.

Memphis won the doubles point with Aran Teixido Garcia and Emily Meyer taking the first match on court one, 6-1, before Camila Soares and Monique Woog teamed up to win 6-4 at the second position.

Woog put the Tigers in front 2-0 with the first singles victory, taking a 6-3, 6-2 decision on the fourth line. After the Bearcats got on the board at the top position, Emily Meyer put Memphis on the brink of victory with a 7-5, 7-5 win on court three.

Cincinnati battled to even the match at 3-3 after coming from behind to win at No. 2 despite Soares winning 6-0 in the first set.

Freshman Micah Pierce clinched the Tiger victory on court six with a dominating 6-2, 6-1 win, her fourth of the season in singles.

The Tigers stay in Cincinnati to face Xavier on Saturday at 4 p.m. CT at Eastern Hills Racquet Club.
