Tigers Open Outdoor Season with Six Meet-Winners at Harding Invite

SEARCY, Ark. – The Memphis Tigers track & field throwing athletes kicked off their outdoor seasons at the Harding Invitational in Searcy, Ark., on Friday and Saturday. The Tigers claimed six gold medals during the two-day competition and 12 total top-three finishes.
"I'm proud of how this group handled today," head coach Kevin Robinson said. "We had many challenges in terms of weather conditions and some other adverse variables. However, I felt that we overcame and adapted quite well. We have a long season ahead of us. Today helped lay the groundwork for what should be a very solid outdoor campaign."
NOTABLES
• Samantha Lenton competed in three events on the weekend and claimed the top spot in all three. She started her weekend off with a win in the women's hammer throw (58.81m / 192'11) and followed it up with wins in the shot put (14.04m / 46'0.75") and discus (51.26m / 168'2").
• Poorna Raorane finished runner-up to Lenton in the women's shot put (13.63m / 44'8.75").
• In the men's javelin, Vitaliy Favorov took gold in his season debut with a throw of 65.10 meters (213'7").
• In the men's shot put, the Tigers swept the top-three spots. Sascha Salesius Schmidt won it with a personal-best throw of 17.92 meters (58'9.5"), followed by runner up Mans Roos (16.01m / 52'6.5") who also recorded a personal-best throw and Ryan Amador (15.76m / 51'8.5") who finished third.
• In the men's hammer throw on Friday, Oliver Tomann picked up a win with a throw of 53.27 meters (174'9").
• The Tigers claimed the second through fifth spots in the men's discus. Will Dibo finished runner up with a 54.15-meter throw (177'8") and Salesius Schmidt took third (53.43m / 175'3"). Amador finished fourth (52'.10m / 170'11") and Roos was fifth (48.91m / 160'5").
