Tigers to Host Jackson State in Opening Round of WNIT

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tiger women's basketball team will be back in the Elma Roane Fieldhouse this week as they play host to Jackson State in the First Round of the Women's National Invitational Tournament Thursday night.
Memphis (20-10, 11-4 AAC) picked up the American's automatic qualifier bid to the WNIT after falling in the semifinal round of the AAC Championship. The Tigers, who are back in the postseason for the first time since the 2015-16 season, made history this season as they secured the program's highest AAC seed in team history, racked up 20 wins for the first time in over a decade and saw an eight-game win streak that included a trip to the AAC Championship Semifinal, the first in program history.
The Tigers also saw multiple personal milestones this year; Madison Griggs became the program's all-time leader in three-point field goals made and surpassed the 1,000-career point mark while Jamirah Shutes moved to 13th all-time in scoring after surpassing 1,500 points in the team's win over UCF in the AAC Championship Quarterfinals.
Jackson State (21-9, 17-1 SWAC) finished the regular season on a 14-game winning streak before taking down Grambling State in the SWAC Quarterfinals. They would fall to Southern University in the semifinal round on a buzzer-beater.
Tip-off between the Tigers and Jackson State is set for Thursday, March 16 at 7 p.m. inside the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. Coverage of the game can be found on ESPN+ and 98.9 FM The Roar of Memphis with Tyler Springs on the call.
