Mar 12, 2023 | Men's Basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The American Athletic Conference champion Memphis Tigers are seeded eighth in the East Region in the 2023 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship and will match up with ninth-seeded Florida Atlantic in the first round Friday at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. CT on TNT.
The Tigers (26-8) earned the AAC's automatic bid and are making their second-consecutive appearance in the Big Dance. It marks the first AAC championship for the program since joining the conference in 2013-14.
Memphis and FAU, winners of both the Conference USA regular season and tournament titles for the first time, have only ever met once in history. The Tigers, led by a young Penny Hardaway, routed the Owls 96-46 on Feb. 3, 1993 in Bluff City.
The Tigers enter the tournament winners of three-straight and 14 of their last 17 games overall.
The 75-65 victory over the top-ranked Cougars Sunday marked the first time in program history the Tigers have beaten the nation's No. 1 team. They were 0-11 all-time entering the title game.
Memphis' priority deadline to request NCAA Tournament tickets closed last week, and tickets allotted to the University have been allocated based on Memphis Athletics Fund priority. Fans who requested tickets by the priority deadline will be contacted by the Memphis Ticket Office.
General tickets for Memphis' games in Columbus may be purchased through Ticketmaster.
