Feb 11, 2023 | Men's Basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – With only four home games remaining in the regular season, the Memphis Tigers are back at FedExForum Sunday for an early morning tipoff against Temple. Game time is set for 11 a.m. on ESPN2.
Memphis (18-6, 8-3 American Athletic Conference) bounced back from its first home loss in over a year with a convincing 99-81 road victory over South Florida Wednesday night in Tampa.
The Tigers currently sit third place in the league standings at 8-3. Temple is right behind at 8-4, and the Owls also bring a 14-11 overall record into Sunday's contest.
Kendric Davis was named to the Midseason Team for the 2023 Jersey Mikes Naismith Trophy on Thursday, just three days after also being named to the Bob Cousy Award. He ranks sixth in Division I in scoring (21.8) and seventh in assists per game (6.1), and is the only player in the nation to rank in the top 10 of both categories.
Davis is on the verge of becoming the first player in Division I since Chicago State's David Holston in 2008-09 to average at least 21.0 points, 6.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game in a single season.
Memphis went to Temple on Jan. 15 for the first time in nearly four years. The Tigers got a game-winner from Davis as the buzzer sounded to leave town with a 61-59 victory.
The two head coaches in Sunday's game, Memphis' Penny Hardaway and Temple's Aaron McKie, are both former NBA players who are coaching at their alma maters.
Hardaway and McKie also played against each other in both college and in the NBA.
