Alemany Clinches 4-3 Victory for Tigers Over Sooners

NORMAN, Okla. -- The Memphis Tigers men's tennis team continued its win streak with perhaps its best victory of the season, defeating (RV) Oklahoma 4-3 Friday night in Norman, Oklahoma.

The win marked the third-straight for the Tigers, improving them to 3-2 on the year. The Sooners, who were receiving votes in this week's ITA top 25 poll, took just their second loss of the season, falling to 6-2.

After Oklahoma came out with a 6-3 win on court three to open doubles, the Tigers answered strong. Harry Rock and Conor Gannon evened the action on court two with a 6-4 victory before David Stevenson and Oscar Cutting secured the doubles point on the top line behind a 6-3 decision.

The Sooners battled backed on their home court with victories on the No. 2 and No. 3 spots to grab a 2-1 advantage in the match, but from that point on it was all Tigers.

Rock battled from behind to win 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 on court six, then Pau Fanlo earned a 7-5, 6-2 straight-set victory at the No. 5 spot to move the Tigers back in front, 3-2.

The match came down to the biggest matchup of the night on the top court at No. 24 Pablo Alemany came from behind to clinch the match with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 win over Oklahoma's No. 103 Jordan Hasson.

The match played out and the Sooners claimed the last court at the No. 4 spot, giving Memphis the 4-3 win.

UP NEXT
Memphis will get a couple week off before getting back on the court. The Tigers's next action will be Feb. 24 on the road at Northwestern before traveling back to the Bluff City for their home opener Feb. 26 against Tennessee State.
