Penny Hardaway Added to Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Nominees

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Friday the addition of Penny Hardaway to its list of nominees for the class of 2024, bringing the list of nominees to 38 in total.
Hardaway was joins a list of 38 nominees that includes the 2008 U.S. Olympic Men's Basketball Team, Vince Carter, Seimone Augustus, Bill Laimbeer, Rick Barnes, Mike Fratello and Penny Taylor.
Nominees are added to the official ballot after a nomination form is submitted to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame president and CEO.
Finalists from the Honor's Committee for the Class of 2024 will be announced on Friday, February 16, in Indianapolis during NBA All-Star Weekend. The entire Class of 2024 will be unveiled during the NCAA Final Four in Phoenix on Saturday, April 6.
Hardaway, nominated for his achievements as a player, averaged 20.0 points, 7.7 rebounds, 5.9 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.3 blocks per game for the Tigers from 1991 to 1993.
He led Memphis to an Elite Eight in 1992, earned consensus All-America honors in 1993 and was named the Great Midwest Conference Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons.
The guard parlayed his collegiate career into a No. 3 overall pick by the Orlando Magic in the 1993 NBA Draft. He was a four-time NBA All-Star, a three-time All-NBA selection and was named to the All-Rookie team in 1993-94.
In 14 NBA seasons, Hardaway averaged 15.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game, while playing in eight NBA playoffs between four teams (Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks, Miami Heat).
Hardaway is in his sixth year as head coach of the Memphis Tigers, where he has compiled a 117-54 record with two NCAA Tournament appearances, a NIT Championship, and an American Conference Tournament title.
