Tigers Set to Kick Off Indoor Season in Birmingham
Nov 30, 2023 | Men's Track and Field, Women's Track and Field
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Memphis track and field team is ready to kick off indoor season on Friday at the BSC Icebreaker at The CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama. Live results are available to follow at this link.
"Tomorrow is an opportunity to get a glimpse of who we are this year. It will give me some opportunities to evaluate some strengths and weaknesses, as well as identify what we have and have not achieved through the fall," head coach Kevin Robinson said. "I have my eyes on a lot of fresh faces who will be competing collegiately for the first time. This meet also provides me with a starting point, developmentally speaking. That will help tremendously as we return to action in January. It is definitely exciting to be lacing up again and competing against somebody other than ourselves."
Competition begins at 9 a.m. with men's and women's shot put.
NOTABLES
• Indoor 60-meter hurdles school-record holder Madison Fleming returns for the Tigers after a breakout season on the track a year ago. Fleming took bronze at the 2023 AAC Indoor Championships with her school-record time of 8.28.
• Will Dibo returns on the men's side after earning a silver medal in the weight throw at last season's AAC Indoor Championships.
• AAC shot-put bronze medalists Sascha Salesius Schmidt and Poorna Raorane each return for the Tigers on the men's and women's squads, respectively.
