Memphis Opens Battle 4 Atlantis Wednesday Against Michigan

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The No. 23 Memphis men's basketball team heads to the Bahamas this week for the Battle 4 Atlantis, set to take on Michigan in its opening game on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. CT.
Fans can catch the action on ESPN2 and online or on any mobile device through WatchESPN. Kevin Fitzgerald (play-by-play) and Andraya Carter (analyst) will have the call.
Memphis (3-0) is coming off a 92-74 home win over Alabama State. Junior forward David Jones led the Tigers with a second-consecutive double-double behind 22 points and 10 rebounds on 7-of-12 shooting with four made triples.
Defensively, the Tigers limited ASU to 31.4 percent shooting from the field.
This week marks Memphis' second time participating in the Battle 4 Atlantis, as the Tigers took home a seventh-place finish in 2012 after defeating Northern Iowa, 52-47, in the final game. The Tigers are 1-2 overall in the event.
Memphis was scheduled to participate in the B4A in 2020, but the tournament was canceled due to COVID-19.
Depending on the result of Wednesday's opening game in the Bahamas, Memphis will face either No. 20 Arkansas or Stanford. In result of a win, tip-off will be at 4 p.m. CT on ESPN. If Michigan wins Wednesday, Memphis will play at 6:30 p.m. CT on ESPNU.

- 2: Forward David Jones is one of only two players in Division I this season that is averaging at least 15.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game while shooting 50 percent from three-point range.
- 104-10: Memphis' record since 2010-11 when holding opponents to 36.0 percent shooting or less; the Tigers limited Missouri to 31.6 percent and then held Alabama State to 31.4 percent on Friday. They have won 18-straight games when holding opponents to 36.0 percent or less, with the last loss coming at Ole Miss on Dec. 4, 2021.
- 1st: Big man Malcolm Dandridge is shooting an AAC-best 90.0 percent from the field this season. He is 9-of-10 overall through three games.
- 85.3: Memphis is averaging 85.3 points per game this season. That would be the highest average for a Tiger squad since averaging 87.5 points in the 1975-76 season.
- Top 3: Penny Hardaway's Tigers always pride themselves on defense and it's no different this season. They currently rank second in the AAC in field goal percentage defense (35.9) and blocked shots (5.7), while ranking third in steals (9.7).
- 6: Jordan Brown is one of just six active players in Division I that has 1,400 points, 700 rebounds and 100 blocks for their career. Joining the big man on the list is Armando Bacot (UNC), Hunter Dickinson (Kansas), Zach Edey (Purdue), Johni Broome (Auburn) and Josh Oduro (Providence).
- 2013: Memphis rarely matches up with a Big Ten opponent these days, but they still find success when they do. The Tigers have not lost to a B10 foe since March 23, 2013 when they fell to Michigan State in the NCAA Tournament. Memphis is 3-0 against the B10 since.
- Memphis took care of business Friday at FedExForum, defeating Alabama State 92-75 behind David Jones' 22-point, 10-rebound effort.
- Jones recorded his second-straight double-double to lead four Tigers in double figures.
- Jahvon Quinerly posted another big game with 16 points, eight rebounds and a team-high four assists, while Jaykwon Walton poured in 12 points, seven boards, three dimes and two blocks. Caleb Mills earned his first start in a Memphis uniform and turned in 10 points and three assists.
