No. 9 Tigers Go Perfect in AAC Play with Win Over Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. – The No. 9 University of Memphis women's soccer team finished out the 2023 regular season in style taking a 2-0 win over Tulsa to complete a perfect conference slate for the first time in program and American Athletic Conference history.
"We started the game tremendously – we stuck to the game plan and got the two goals, so I'm very pleased with how we came out tonight," head coach Brooks Monaghan said. "Credit to Tulsa because they are a very good team… I'm pleased we were able to come away with the win and I'm extremely proud of what the team has been able to accomplish through this point of the season. Hopefully we can keep this going into the postseason."
After tonight's game, Memphis improves to an impressive 15-1 for the season and 9-0 in AAC play.

KEY MOMENTS
- Fifth-year senior Mya Jones put the Tigers on top in the 4' when Anna Hauer sent a cross into the box that Jones headed in to give Memphis a 1-0 lead.
- Just two minutes later, Tulsa would get its best look of the night when Karsen Aguirre had a high strike that Kaylie Bierman snagged.
- The Golden Hurricane continued its offensive pressure, getting a shot from Madison Tokarchik that was blocked off the leg of Grace Stordy in the 12'.
- After a Tulsa foul in the box resulted in a Memphis penalty kick, Jones punched in her second goal of the night off the rebounded shot to give the Tigers the two-goal lead heading into the break.
- Memphis attempted to add to its lead in the second half, getting looks from Saorla Miller, Izzy Monck, Honoka Hamano and Ashley Henderson.
- Despite opportunities not falling in the second half, the Tiger defense held Tulsa to just one shot in the final 45 minutes.
- Jones picked up goals number eight and nine of the season in the win.
- Bierman recorded her 13th win of the season and collected two saves. She also picked up her seventh solo shutout of the season while lowering her goals-against average to 0.31.
- This is the first time in program history that the Tigers finished the regular season perfect in conference play. Memphis is also the first AAC women's soccer team to finish the regular season with an unblemished conference mark.
- The 12-game winning streak is the best for the Tigers since the 2011 season.
UP NEXT
- Memphis will play in the first round of the American Athletic Conference Championship against UAB on Tuesday, Oct. 31. Kick-off is scheduled for 10 a.m. CT at the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
