Tigers Retain Bones Trophy with Dominant Win at UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Memphis football team retained the Battle for the Bones trophy on Saturday with a dominant, 45-21, victory at UAB.

The Tigers (5-2, 2-1 AAC) outscored the Blazers (2-6, 1-3) in the second half, 24-0, and limited them to just 49 yards of offense and forced three turnovers in the final 30 minutes.

Running back Blake Watson rushed for a game-high 125 yards on 21 carries and scored a touchdown to lead the way offensively. The 100-yard game was the third this season for the Old Dominion transfer and the 12^th of his career.

Quarterback Seth Henigan completed 19-of-28 passes for 159 yards and two scores, while running back Brandon Thomas had two rushing TDs. Tight ends Anthony Landphere and Brendan Doyle each had a receiving touchdown in the victory.

Defensively, linebackers Geoffrey Cantin-Arku and Chandler Martin led the Tigers with eight tackles each. Both had 0.5 tackles for loss, while Martin forced his second fumble of the year.

The Memphis defense forced four turnovers on the day, with Malik Feaster, Simeon Blair and Cameron Smith each recording an interception. Feaster returned his pick 36 yards for a touchdown, while Blair added a fumble recovery to his ledger as well. Defensive lineman CorMontae Hamilton had seven stops, one sack, 1.5 tackles for loss and one quarterback hurry.

In a back-and-forth first half, each team scored three touchdowns in the opening 30 minutes, making the game 21-21 at halftime. After the break, the Tigers exerted their wills, blanking the Blazers defensively, while scoring on four of the team's five drives.

The Memphis Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 28 when the team heads to Denton, Texas to face North Texas. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
