No. 9 Tigers Earn Shutout Win Over Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The University of Memphis women's soccer team completed a successful road trip on Sunday afternoon, claiming a 1-0 win over Charlotte.
"It was a tough, physical match," head coach Brooks Monaghan said. "Winning is never easy and winning on the road is even harder. We just have to continue to get better with the fine details but, overall, I'm proud of our group for gritting it out and pleased with the result."
After today's win, Memphis improves to 12-1 on the season and 6-0 in AAC play.

KEY MOMENTS
- After a quiet start to the match, Momo Nakao put the Tigers on the board in the 32' when she headed in a rebounded shot for the 1-0 lead.
- The Memphis defense held Charlotte out of their attacking third for most of the half, allowing just one shot that Kaylie Biermanstopped.
- The 49er's made moves in the second half to get on the board; in the 51' of play, Payton Patrick would send a shot in that was blocked by the Tiger backline. Just five minutes later, Finley Lavin served as Memphis' last line of defense and sent Patrick's shot out of bounds.
- Charlotte continued to challenge the Tigers, putting shots on-goal in the 58' and 70' that Bierman saved.
- The Tigers, looking for an insurance goal, would get three-consecutive looks and near misses from Ashley Henderson, Izzy Monck and Anna Hauer late in the second half.
- Memphis held Charlotte to no shots in the final 15 minutes of the match to take the 1-0 win.
- Nakao netted her fifth goal of the season while Anne-Valerie Seto collected assist number two.
- Bierman picked up her 10th win of the season while lowering her goals-against average to 0.39.
- As a team, Memphis is outscoring its opponents 32-5 this season.
- With the shutout today, the Tigers now have nine shutouts this season and have yet to allow a goal in the month of October.
