Tigers Host UAB in Weekend Series

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Tigers stay home this weekend, hosting American Athletic Conference newcomer, UAB, Friday and Saturday. Memphis (6-13, 2-5) is coming off its four-set win over Tulane on Oct. 8 and is looking to continue with the positive momentum against UAB.
"Looking forward to having another new AAC opponent come to the Finch Center this weekend in UAB. They are a very well coached team that can attack you in many ways," head coach Sean Burdette shared. "We did a lot of good things in the Tulane match last weekend that we want to bring to these two matches vs UAB and play consistently."
UAB (2-17, 0-7) has struggled in its inaugural season in the AAC and is still searching for its first win in conference play. The Blazers were most recently swept by North Texas and Tulsa and are harboring a 13-match losing streak. UAB is averaging 11.7 kills, a .174 clip, 13.7 digs and two blocks per set, while allowing opponents a .253 clip and 12.9 kills per set. The Blazers are led by Mia Reese, who has 203 kills and is averaging 3.09 points per set. Madison Page, Jillian Vickers and Kelsey Smith lead the Blazers defensively at the net, tallying over 45 blocks each this season. Anna Burkhardt leads the team in digs with 4.34 per set.
Memphis split its weekend dropping its match against Rice, 3-1, Friday night before defeating Tulane, 3-1, Sunday afternoon, leaving the Tigers at 2-5 in AAC play. The Tigers are averaging 11.9 kills per set, and four Tigers have tallied 100 or more kills on the season so far. Tabytha Toelke leads the team with 150, followed by Clara Bednarek with 133, Madison Rice-Locket with 108 and Autumn Flynn with 106. Rylee Busse currently leads the Tigers with 25 aces on the season. Abigail Schlueter leads Memphis with 3.46 digs per set with Toelke ranking second at 2.60. Bednarek tops the Tigers with 57 blocks so far this season with Flynn following behind with 36.
