MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Three University of Memphis track and field athletes are ready to begin competition at the 2022 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Men's are slated to kick off at Hayward Field Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. (CT), and women's events will begin Thursday and round out the weekend Saturday evening.
Cole Riddle, Robby Watson and DeeNia McMiller were three of the 11 athletes who competed for the Tigers at the NCAA East Regional and qualified for the championships.
Riddle qualified at the regional for the men's pole vault with a top clearance of 5.29m. He begins the championships at the 11th spot in the nation from his performance at the Memphis Tiger Invitational in April (5.53m).
Watson earned an eighth-place finish at the regional, qualifying with a 68.17m mark in the men's hammer. This mark was only slightly behind his seasonal-best at the Rhodes Invitational in March (68.33m), which gives him a top-25 ranking entering the championships.
McMiller will be making her NCAA outdoor championships debut after three appearances at indoor championships. She qualified at the regional with a 64.59m hammer throw and will begin the weekend at the 14th spot in the nation.
Watson will be the first of the Tigers to compete, with the men's hammer competition beginning at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Riddle will compete later in the day (7 p.m.), and the women's hammer for McMiller is slated for Thursday at 5 p.m.
Coverage for the entirety of the championships will air on ESPN3, with linear broadcasts each evening.
