Brooks Named to AAC Weekly Honor Roll
May 02, 2022 | Baseball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Hitting for the cycle in Memphis' game vs. Wichita State Sunday, SS Ben Brooks was named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll. Brooks is the eighth different Tigers player to earn Honor Roll recognition in 2022. The cycle was Memphis' first since March 2020, and just the second for a Tigers hitter in the last 20 years.
In Sunday's matchup vs. the Shockers, Brooks tripled in the first inning, doubled in the fourth frame, singled in the sixth, and hit a two-out, three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to complete the cycle. Over the week that saw victories over Mississippi Valley State and Wichita State, Brooks went 7-18 (.389) with a double, triple, home run, and six RBIs. Brooks added five runs, a .542 OBP, and a .722 SLG.
For the season, the fifth-year shortstop has hit .289 with two home runs and 25 RBIs. Brooks has added three doubles, while his triple on Sunday was his first of the year. Brooks' .395 OBP is third on the team among qualified hitters, while his 31 runs scored and 46 hits pace the Tigers.
Brooks joins RF Blake Daniels, RHP Landon Gartman, DH Jacob Compton, 3B Logan Kohler, 2B Austin Baskin, RHP Connor Shamblin (twice) and LF Ian Bibiloni who all earned Honor Roll recognition earlier this season.
Memphis returns to action Tuesday with a 6 p.m. first pitch vs. UT-Martin at USA Baseball Stadium in Millington. The Tigers will be home all week, with a conference set vs. East Carolina Friday-Sunday.
