WICHITA, Kan. – University of Memphis track and field picked up five golds and 12 total medals this weekend at the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Wichita, Kan.
Two of the golds went to DeeNia McMiller for the women's hammer and shot put. Her performances earned her women's Most Valuable Performer accolades. She shattered the conference record with her top 67.89m hammer throw mark and posted another conference record in shot put (17.85m). These marks give her 14th and eighth-place rankings in the nation for the events, respectively. McMiller also brought home a third medal with her second-place discus throw (51.33m).
Mona Jaidi was the second athlete to earn a first-place spot for the women's team. Her 55.25m throw created a new meet record. She now ranks 12th overall in the NCAA and sixth in the east region.
On the men's side, Cole Riddle and Iason Machairas both earned individual titles. Riddle's gold medal in the pole vault was the first in the outdoors for the Tigers since 2014. He had a top clearance of 5.33m and is still ranked 11th in the nation from his home meet performance. Machairas became a three-time conference champion with his final 17.48m shot put throw.
