Tigers Beat Tulane in AAC Championship Opener

TULSA, Okla. – The fourth-seeded Memphis Tiger women's tennis team battled to a 4-3 win over fifth-seeded Tulane in the quarterfinals of the 2022 American Athletic Conference Championship Thursday afternoon in Tulsa, Okla.

No. 55 Memphis (18-6) advances to Friday's semifinal against the winner of the UCF/South Florida match. The Tigers will take the court at 3 p.m. Friday.

"Tulane was a tough opponent as usual," Memphis head coach Hayden Perez said. "They brought great fight with them, and I was proud of how we matched it. We are a team in every sense of the word, and at different times different people step up. I'm proud of this team and can't wait for another opportunity to play tomorrow."

The Tigers dropped the first doubles match but captured the next two to win the day's opening point. Aran Teixido Garcia won 6-1, 6-1 on singles court one to put the Tigers ahead 2-0, but Tulane took the next two points to knot the match at 2.

Camila Soares then earned a 6-3, 6-4 win our court five, but Tulane again battled back to tie things up at 3 with a win on court four. Camila Romero clinched the match for the Tigers with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) victory on the second court.

With a win Friday in the semifinals, the Tigers would advance to the championship match Saturday at 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
