Memphis Takes Five-Game Winning Streak to Cincinnati Tuesday Night
Feb 14, 2022 | Men's Basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Fresh off a signature win and riding a five-game winning streak, the Memphis Tigers' three-game road trip continues Tuesday night at Cincinnati. Tip-off against the Bearcats is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
Tuesday's game is a makeup of the Feb. 3 postponement due to inclement winter weather in Cincinnati.
Memphis defeated No. 6/7 Houston Saturday afternoon in Houston, snapping the Cougars' 37-game home winning streak, which was the second-longest in the nation. The 69-59 win was Memphis' first over a top-10 team on the road since 2005.
The Tigers currently sit in third place in the American Athletic Conference standings with their 8-4 league mark. SMU and Houston are at the top with 9-2 records, and Tulane is immediately behind Memphis at 8-5.
Tuesday's game is the 84th in the longtime series between the Tigers and the Bearcats, and Memphis has won back-to-back meetings. When Memphis won at Cincinnati last season on Feb. 28, it snapped a seven-game losing streak in games played at Cincinnati dating back to Dec. 19, 2007. A win Tuesday would also give Memphis a regular-season series sweep over Cincinnati for the first time since 1994-95 in the Great Midwest Conference. Since then, the two schools have played twice in the regular season six times.
Cincinnati enters the game having lost three of its last five contests. The Bearcats are led by David DeJulius' 14.7 points per game and Jeremiah Davenport's 5.2 rebounds per outing. DeJulius has scored 20-plus points in three-straight games and has been in double figures in seven-in-a-row.
Following Tuesday's game, the Tigers travel to SMU to play the Mustangs Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. The Tigers then return to FedExForum to host Temple on Thursday, Feb. 24 and Wichita State on Sunday, Feb. 27.
