Postgame Notes: Memphis vs. Utah State – SERVPRO First Responder Bowl

KICKING IT OFF
• Coin Toss: Memphis won the coin toss and elected to receive.
• Memphis Captains: Xavier "Zay" Cullens, Matt Dale, Quindell Johnson, Austin Myers
TEAM NOTES
• With the victory over the Aggies, Memphis improved 7-8 all-time in bowl games.
• The Tigers have forced at least one turnover in 15 of the last 18 games. Memphis has forced multiple turnovers in 11 of the last 18 contests.
• With the win, Memphis finished 7-6 on the year to extend the program's streak of finishing .500 or better to nine-consecutive season. That streak is tied for the fourth-longest among Group of 5 programs.
• The 28-point margin of victory is the largest in program bowl history.
• The 261 total yards allowed by Memphis is the second-fewest in program bowl history.
• Silverfield is the first coach in program history to win two-straight bowl games and is one of only two head coaches in program history with two bowl wins (Tommy West).
• Memphis earned the program's ninth-consecutive bowl game berth. The streak is the longest among non-Power 5 teams and is currently tied for ninth longest among all NCAA teams. That includes all seven seasons that Ryan Silverfield has been on staff.
PLAYER NOTES
• Redshirt-senior kicker Chris Howard gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead with 1:05 remaining in the first quarter when he chipped in a 26-yard field goal. Howard is now 21-for-24 on field-goal attempts this season.
• With his 15-yard touchdown pass to redshirt-senior wide receiver Eddie Lewis with 7:24 to play in the first half, sophomore quarterback Seth Henigan extended his streak of consecutive games with a touchdown pass to 24 games – every start of his career.
• Lewis caught his second touchdown of the game (22 yards) from Henigan with 2:56 to play in the first half.
• Lewis was the game's leading receiver with five catches for 83 yards to go with his pair of touchdowns.
• Henigan found redshirt-junior tight end Caden Prieskorn from three yards out with just 24 seconds left in the first half to give the Tigers a 24-3 advantage at the break. That reception moved Prieskorn into a tie with Sean Dykes for the most receptions in a single season by a tight end (48) and single-season touchdowns by a tight end (7). His 602 yards are also the second-most in a single season by a Tiger tight end behind only Sean Dykes' 2021 season total (657).
• Henigan ended the game 20-for-29 passing for 284 yards and three touchdown passes and was named MVP of the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl.
• Henigan's numbers for attempts (445), completions (285) and passing yards (3,559) rank second, third and fifth, respectively, for a single season at Memphis.
• Redshirt-junior linebacker Geoffrey Cantin-Arku was the game's leading tackler (10 total, 5 solo, 1 TFL).
• Redshirt-senior defensive lineman Jaylon Allen, redshirt-freshman defensive lineman James Stewart, redshirt-sophomore Cam'Ron Jackson and redshirt-freshman William Whitlow Jr. each tallied a sack.
• Fifth-year defensive back Sylvonta Oliver picked off his second pass and third pass of the season for his first-career multi-interception game.
• Oliver's two interceptions match the Memphis bowl game record, as well as the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl record.
• Redshirt-sophomore Jevyon Ducker rushed in a touchdown from a yard out with 7:22 to play in the fourth quarter and broke a 48-yard touchdown run with 3:16 remaining for his sixth and seventh rushing scores this season.
