JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The No. 12-ranked University of Memphis rifle team defeated No. 14 Jacksonville State, 4676-4651, on Saturday morning in Jacksonville, Ala. The Tigers (2-3) won smallbore over the Gamecocks (2-3), 2321-2313, and air rifle, 2355-2338.
"I'm really proud of the way the team shot today," head coach Morgan Phillips remarked. "It was great to get our first win on the road this year. I think we learned a lot and are ready to test some of those things out tomorrow against Ole Miss at home."
KEY MOMENTS
• Senior Angeline Henry was the top performer for the Tigers again on Saturday, placing first as an individual with an aggregate score of 1177. Henry won smallbore with a total of 588 and finished second in air rifle with a score of 589.
• Freshman Gabriela Zych took second overall with an aggregate total of 1169. Zych won air rifle with a score of 591 and took sixth in smallbore with a 578.
• Junior Kaylene Castillo was third overall with an aggregate total of 1165. She took third in air rifle with a score of 589 and seventh in smallbore with a 576.
• Classmate Jack Kersey took fourth place individually with an aggregate total of 1165. Kersey was third in smallbore with a 579 and fifth in air rifle with a 586.
• Rounding out Memphis' effort was freshman Sophia Cruz, who took eighth overall. Cruz posted scores of 569 in smallbore, 584 in air rifle and an 1153 in aggregate.
