NOTES: Memphis Hosts North Alabama on Senior Day

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis will host North Alabama for Senior Day on Saturday, Nov. 19 at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the game will be televised on ESPN+.
Tickets for the final home game of the season against North Alabama are available at GoTigersGo.com. Tickets in the family zone for all home games start at $20 and in the endzone for $25.
SETTING THE SCENE
• On Thursday, Nov. 10, the Tigers took down Tulsa, 26-10, to move to 5-5 on the season overall and to 3-4 in American Athletic Conference play.
• Wide receiver Javon Ivory matched a career high with seven receptions for 123 yards, including a 68-yard touchdown.
• Defensively, Jaylon Allen had two sacks and four quarterback hurries for Memphis, while Tyler Murray recorded his second interceptions of the season.
• The Tigers have forced at least one turnover in 13 of their last 15 games, piling up 28 takeaways over that span.
• Memphis posted a record of 6-6 last season, earning the program's eighth-straight bowl appearance.
• The Tigers were named the EasyPost Hawai'i Bowl Champions after Hawai'i was unable to participate.
• The eight-consecutive bowls streak is tied for the eighth-best in the nation and is the best among all non-Power 5 programs.
SCOUTING NORTH ALABAMA
• North Alabama comes to Memphis with an overall record of 1-9 on the season and a mark of 0-5 in Atlantic Sun play. The Lions have five one-possession losses this season, including the last two weeks under interim head coach Ryan Held.
• UNA running back ShunDerrick Powell is third in the FCS in rushing yards (1,468) and leads the FCS with 18 rushing touchdowns.
• As a team, the Lions rank 27th in the FCS in rushing offense (193.2) and rank 33rd in scoring offense (31.4).
• Prior to the season, North Alabama moved from the Big South conference to the Atlantic Sun. In the preseason poll, the Lions were picked to finish sixth in the six-team ASUN by the league's coaches.
• In 2021, the Lions posted a record of 3-8 on the season, including a mark of 2-4 in the Big South.

• With one more win this season, Memphis would secure the program's ninth-straight bowl berth.

MEMPHIS TO RETIRE DANTON BARTO'S NO. 59 JERSEY
• One of the best players in the history of University of Memphis Football, Danton Barto's jersey (No. 59) will be retired in a ceremony at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium on Nov. 19 against North Alabama.
• A 2007 M-Club. Hall of Fame inductee, Barto remains the school record holder for career solo tackles (273) and career total tackles (473) and ranks second all-time with 200 assisted career tackles. Barto passed away in August of 2021 at the age of 50.
• Barto will join a prestigious group of former Tigers to have their jersey retired: John Bramlett (No. 64), Isaac Bruce (83), Dave Casinelli (30), Charles Greenhill (8), Harry Schuh (79) and DeAngelo Williams (20).
HOWARD NAMED AAC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR SECOND TIME
• Kicker Chris Howard was named AAC Special Teams Player of the Week on Nov. 14 for the second time this season after his great performance in the win over Tulsa.
• Howard was a perfect, 4-for-4 on his field goals and 2 for-2 on extra point attempts. Howard hit from a season-best 49 yards against the Golden Hurricanes, as well as from 44, 32 and 31 yards.
• At East Carolina on Oct. 15, Howard connected on all three of his field goal attempts, hitting from 23, 40 and 46 yards out, to earn AAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
• Howard is also a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award.
DISCIPLINED TEAM
• Entering Thursday's game, Memphis is ranked seventh in the nation in both total penalties (42) and in fewest penalties per game (4.20).
• The Tigers did not have any penalties at No. 25/25 Tulane on Oct. 22, marking the first time since 2020 against Houston the team accomplished that feat.
RANKED OPPONENTS
• The game against No. 25/25/25 UCF marked the fourth opponent for Memphis this season that has been ranked at some point during the year.

TIGERS RECOGNIZE GLENN ROGERS SR.
• Memphis honored Glenn Rogers Sr., the first Black player to integrate the team in the spring of 1968, at halftime of the team's game against Tulsa on Nov. 10.
• Rogers Sr. played for the Tigers from 1969-71 after walking on to the team in the spring of 1968.
• In 1969, both Rogers Sr. and Stan Davis, who joined the team in the fall of 1969, became the first Black players to appear in a game for Memphis.
• For all his service and contributions to the community, Rogers Sr. was honored with the M Club Hall of Fame Billy J. Murphy Award in 2000.
MEMPHIS HONORS BILLY J. MURPHY
• The University of Memphis football program honored Billy J. Murphy at the team's game against No. 25/25/25 UCF on Nov. 5
• Murphy, former head football coach and athletic director for the University of Memphis for more than 30 years, will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as part of the 2022 class on Dec. 6.
• The winningest coach in Memphis history, Murphy headed the Tigers' program for 14 years, posting winning records in all but two seasons and leading the school into the national rankings. Murphy passed away on Feb. 21, 2008 at the age of 87.
