MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tiger women's basketball team got their first taste of the 2022-23 season when they hosted Rust College in an exhibition game tonight. The Tigers would go on for the 84-51 win.

While the Tigers tried to pull away, the Bearcat offense continued to hang around.
Memphis would take a 40-27 lead into the break after a steal and score from Emani Jefferson at the buzzer.
The Tigers marginal lead would quickly turn into a 21-point lead after scoring on five consecutive trips down the floor to open the third quarter. While Memphis held on to their lead, Rust would come storming back late in the third quarter after a 5-0 run cut their deficit to 55-42.
Free throws from Jamirah Shutes and a put-back layup from Destiny Thomas would push the Tigers lead back out to 59-42 heading into the final 10 minutes of play.
Memphis' offense would run the show in the fourth quarter, opening up play with a 12-0 run. Their defense would hold the Bearcats scoreless for nearly seven minutes before Rust scored off a jump shot from Ky'lie Scott.
