Nov 01, 2022 | Men's Soccer
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tiger men's soccer team will wrap up the regular season on Wednesday night when they play host to the Blazers of UAB.
Memphis (7-4-4, 4-3-1 AAC) is coming off a 2-0 loss to South Florida this past weekend. Colin Welsh was the shining spot for the Tigers making a career-tying eight saves against the Bulls.
For the season, Alberto Cruz and Lineker Rodrigues dos Santos lead the team with seven and five goals, respectively. Nine other Tigers have recorded goals this year while Hayden Anderson leads the team with six assists.
Welsh has been the go-to for Memphis in-goal this season with 54 saves in almost 1,340 minutes of work. He currently ranks second in the AAC for total saves and in the top-five in saves per game and save percentage.
UAB (3-8-4, 1-4-3 AAC) is coming off a tie with Temple where the Blazers scored off a Temple own-goal in the 36'.
Nathaniel St. Louis and Brooks Rice lead the team offensively with eight combined goals. Jack Hudson, who has started and played in 13 games for UAB this season, leads the AAC with 55 saves.
"This is the most important match of the year for us," said head men's soccer coach Richard Mulrooney. "We have a great opportunity to move up in the standings and going into the tournament off a win would be a great feat for us."
Memphis has taken the last two match-ups between the two teams with Jovan Prado and Maxi Galizzi both scoring in last year's 3-1 win over UAB.
Wednesday's match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start time at the Track & Soccer Complex. Coverage of the match can be found on ESPN+.
