MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis punter Joe Doyle was named the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday, while linebacker Xavier "Zay" Cullens was named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll.
Both players were instrumental in helping Memphis improve to 4-1 on the season and to 2-0 in league play with a 24-3 win over Temple this past Saturday.
Doyle punted six times for an average of 53.5 yards with two punts inside the 20-yard line. Last week, Doyle was named the Ray Guy Punter of the Week for his effort in the team's win over North Texas. For the season, Doyle ranks second in the NCAA and leads the conference in punting with his average of 49.2 yards per attempt.
Cullens had a game-high nine tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, an interception and a pass breakup in the team's win over Temple to earn AAC Honor Roll accolades for the second-straight week.
