Tigers Round Out Regular Season at SMU

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tiger women's soccer team will wrap up regular season play on Thursday night when they take on the Mustangs of SMU.
Memphis (7-4-4, 3-1-1 AAC) is currently on a three-game winning streak that was extended when the Tiger offense dominated in a 5-2 victory over Tulsa last week. Saorla Miller starred in an offensive explosion for Memphis with two goals, including the game-winning goal, and an assist while Eef Kerkhof and Momo Nakao both chipped in a goal and assist, each.
"We always knew we were capable of playing to this caliber," said head coach Brooks Monaghan. "The team has really come together to play for one another and is playing some of the best team soccer out there."
Defensively, Memphis held the Golden Hurricane to just three shots the entire match while holding them shotless in the opening 45 minutes.
For the season, the Tigers have eight players with two or more goals while Mya Jones leads the team with six goals. Claire Wyville has played and started in the last nine matches for Memphis with 17 saves and five solo shutouts under her belt. She currently ranks third in the AAC with her 0.889 goals-against average.
SMU (7-3-5, 2-3-2 AAC) picked up their first win in nearly a month when they earned a 2-0 win over Tulsa this past Sunday. Wayny Balata and Julissa Cisneros scored in the 41' and 51', respectively,
For the season, Cisneros leads the team with seven goals while Tatum Sutherland and Samantha Estrada have split time in goal for the Mustangs this season while the duo has allowed just 11 goals the entire season.
"SMU is an extremely talented team and this will be a great final test for us before the conference tournament," said Monaghan.
The Tigers and Mustangs are scheduled to kick-off on Thursday night beginning at 7 p.m. Coverage of the match can be found on ESPN+.
