MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Coming off their first American Athletic Conference win of the season, the Tigers will pack their bags and hit the road this week to face-off against the Knights of UCF on Thursday night.
Memphis (7-1-1, 1-0-0 AAC) collected the 4-0 shutout over Temple last week with goals from Kimberley Smit, Jocelyn Alonzo, Haylee Spray and Grace Stordy. The win marked the team's sixth shutout of the season.
"The American is a challenging league, so no conference win is easy," said head coach Brooks Monaghan. "I am extremely pleased in the team's performance on Thursday, and it was an added bonus that most of our players got significant minutes on the field."
Coming into Thursday's match, Tanya Boychuk leads the team with four goals while Alonzo, Aubrey Mister and Saorla Miller all have netted three goals. Seven other Tiger players have scored at least once this season.
Senior goalkeeper Elizabeth Moberg has moved even further to claiming a new program record; following the shutout over the Owls last week, Moberg sits just one away from tying the record and is two shutouts away from breaking the record. Currently, Elise Kuhar-Pitters holds the record with 38 career shutouts.
Moberg also has the opportunity to break Kuhar-Pitters career wins record; going into Thursday's match with the Knight, Moberg has 52 career wins, five behind the current record of 57.
UCF (5-3-0, 0-1-0 AAC) is coming off a 5-0 win over Stetson after they dropped their conference opener to Houston.
In the 48' of play against Houston, the Cougar's Zionah Browne found the foot of Jazmin Grant to five them the 1-0 lead. UCF would get three chances to tie the match, but none were able to connect with the back of the net.
So far this season, the Knight's Kristen Scott leads the team with six goals while Mallory Olsson and Darya Rajaee have combined for six goals. Five other UCF players have all recorded one goal this season.
"Central Florida is very skilled and full of talented players, so we need to be on our A-game in order to give ourselves the best chance to win," said Monaghan.
