Memphis Heads to Central Arkansas Invitational
Sep 02, 2021 | Women's Volleyball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tigers look to follow up a perfect 3-0 weekend at the Georgia State University Invitational as they head to the Central Arkansas Invitational Friday and Saturday. Memphis will face Missouri State and Little Rock at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. respectively Friday and conclude the tournament against Central Arkansas at 3 p.m. Saturday.
The Tigers were perfect last weekend at the Georgia State University (GSU) Invitational, with three consecutive 3-0 match wins over California Baptist, Chattanooga, and Georgia State. Memphis dominated every facet across all three matches and faced just one set point over the three-match weekend. Elizabeth Orf was named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for her performance at the tournament, while she, Sabrina Bianco, and Tabytha Toelke were all named to the GSU Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Memphis has a relatively long history against each team at the Central Arkansas Invitational, as the Tigers have matched up with each team at this weekend's tournament individually more than the three teams combined at the GSU Invitational. Dating back to 1979, Memphis is 0-8 against Missouri State, though only one of those matches has taken place since 1989. The Tigers are 11-8 vs. Little Rock, with a win at home in 2015 and a win on a neutral court in 2017 as the two most recent matchups. Memphis is 6-4 against Central Arkansas but has dropped four straight matches to the Sugar Bears, with the Tigers' last win in 2009.
