Tigers Fight but Drop Season Opener at Ohio State, 3-2

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Memphis Tigers battled Ohio State in the season opener, heading into the half tied at 1 but ultimately coming up just shy in a 3-2 defeat Friday night in Columbus, Ohio.

The Tigers (0-1) are on a five-match road trip to start the season, including this weekend's action in the annual Wolstein Classic.

KEY MOMENTS

Emanuel Santos opened the scoring for the Tigers this season with an 11th-minute penalty kick goal.
The game remained knotted at 1 at intermission after the game was delayed 30 minutes by lightning.
After Ohio State scored twice in the second half, Gabriel Christensen found the back of the net in the 90th minute but the Tigers could not find the equalizer in the final seconds.

NOTABLES

Santos was Memphis' leading goal-scorer a season ago.
Friday's match was Christensen's first as a Tiger after starting his career at Coastal Carolina.
