Tigers Set for Full Slate in Fall Return to Court

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Following a shortened season that was shifted from fall 2020 to spring 2021, the Memphis Tigers volleyball team will return to the court for a full 2021 fall schedule. The Tigers will start the season with three tournaments on the road and wrap up non-conference action as the hosts of the Tiger Brawl.

After the delayed and abbreviated 2020 season, Memphis is back to the traditional fall calendar and non-conference tournament structure. The Tigers will begin the season with road tournaments three consecutive weekends, with hosts Georgia State, Central Arkansas, and Southeast Missouri State respectively.

"This fall we have a full and challenging slate of matches from our non-conference play to a new, full double round robin of conference matches," said head coach Sean Burdette. "We will have to have a road warrior mentality the first three weeks of the season with road events at Georgia State, Central Arkansas, and Southeast Missouri, but I really like how this group has worked in the offseason and has come into preseason focused and ready to compete."

Following competition against nine different programs on the road, Memphis will host a pair of Arkansas squads as well as UT-Martin in a return to the Tiger Brawl for the first time since 2019. The 2021 Tiger Brawl will consist of three of the same four programs as the last time the event took place, while all three visiting teams in the event played in Memphis in either 2018 or 2019.

Returning to a normal conference schedule after last season's slate of facing the same American Athletic Conference team on consecutive days, the Tigers will play all 10 conference opponents at both the Larry O. Finch Center and on the road. In the second year with the Finch Center as the program's home, the Tigers have nine of their 10 AAC home matches on either Friday or Sunday, at 6 p.m. and 1 p.m. respectively.
